J. Erik Heath

San Francisco, CA
Erik has recently become a solo practitioner in San Francisco, focusing on bankruptcy and consumer rights litigation. At the NCLC conference in San Antonio in November 2015, he received NACA's award for Outstanding Achievement in Consumer Law, for his work in having Georgia's garnishment process declared unconstitutional. He also assists NACBA in drafting amicus curiae briefs for various issues, including judicial estoppel and student loan matters.

Prior to opening his practice, Erik was a Staff Attorney with Atlanta Legal Aid Society in Georgia, where he developed his passion for assisting low-income consumers. His caseload covered a wide breadth of consumer finance issues, including bankruptcy, debt collection, used car financing, and student loans. While working for Legal Aid, he also served on the Bench and Bar Committee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court (N.D. Ga.) to help overhaul the local bankruptcy rules. Erik graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 2009, and received his Bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University in 2002.
